The names of the gods have become mantras, imbued with all the power of the gods they identify. Devotees of Krishna who chant Hare Rama Hare Krishna, “hail Rama, hail Krishna,” 56 ◆ Hinduism are reciting a mantra that is also a prayer. Yantras, also called mandalas, are widely used in meditation, are found in art, and are worked into the floorplans of temples. It is here in these legal texts that the philosophical ideals intersect with daily life.
